Nature and wildlife
The Puntiglione path — It starts a few steps from the house and then branches off, according to its loops and your fitness, on the north side towards the Peru beach (where it joins the Funtanella path which goes back up towards the village), on the south side towards the port, or towards the west at the very end of the rocky point of Cargèse (in French, the lion's point!). Ideal for short walks as well as for jogging of all levels (flat, uneven, dirt track, technical parts), in the early morning or in the evening, it is a gem whose many detours make for infinite variety.
For keen hikers, the village of Cargèse is also the departure or arrival point for two of the island's most beautiful and impressive hikes: Tra Mare e Monti to Calenzana (in 10 days), and Mare a mare Nord, which crosses the whole of central Corsica as far as Moriani (in 12 days).
The Calanques of Piana —Just 15 minutes by car (or from Cargèse by boat with one of the many companies that provide tours by sea), this part of the Scandola nature reserve, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will make you wonder if you are not dreaming. Sublime landscapes with extraordinary hues in all lights, protected wildlife, a wonder that is always renewed...
Scandola Nature Reserve (towards Piana and Porto) — The Calanques de Piana are part of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many companies provide boat tours departing from Cargèse or Porto. Like the Calanques, it's a waking dream; and when dolphins get involved…
The Gulf of Girolata — Another jewel of Scandola, the wildest, accessible by boat only (by the same companies that take you to the Calanques and the reserve, departing from Cargèse and Porto).
Capu Rossu — This superb cape with pink hues marks the beginning of the splendid Gulf of Porto . It is visible from the heights of Cargèse (north). Just a stone's throw from our house, you can see it. But you can of course see it closer, by the magnificent road that branches off towards Arone beach in the village of Piana. Capu Rossu belonged to one of our ancestors… before he offered it, out of friendship, to a distant cousin of whom we have lost track! (This is how things were done until recently on the Island.)
Lake Creno — Who would have thought that a few of Monet's water lilies escaped into the Corsican mid-mountains to join the peaceful Lake Creno? Corsica is also the mountains, its unique Corsican pines, its lakes and its natural pools...
Natural pools of the Aïtone forest — Urgent need of cool and absolute silence? Of magical forests and mountains? This is where you have to go…
Le Ranch Equestrian Farm (Sagone, Cargèse) — Western riding for all levels. Loved, pampered, respected, kind horses. Swimming with them, splendid rides, day rides (from September to June), cattle sorting, etc.
